String Orchestra Program in Allston

In partnership with the Gardner Pilot Academy, Boston String Academy started a string orchestra program in November 2013 at the Gardner Pilot Academy in Allston, MA. It is open to their students, as well as other children in the community. The program currently serves nearly 40 students from the Allston/Brighton communities, grades 1-6. Every week students attend three days of group instruction in addition to a weekly private or semi-private lesson.

We use different methods and techniques of string pedagogy, including the Colourstrings method, combined with ear training, music theory and solfege singing. Our unique approach nurtures every child’s potential guiding them to reach their highest levels of musical excellence.

Students have the opportunity to perform in masterclasses, solo recitals, small ensembles and orchestra concerts at different venues in the Boston area throughout the year. This year, students from this program were able to join the Longy School of Music’s Sistema Side by Side Orchestra, which brings together students form across Massachusetts.

The Boston String Academy offers students the opportunity to attend high quality professional performances in the Boston area, such as those given by the Boston Symphony, the Boston Philharmonic, Celebrity Series at Symphony Hall, and other important organizations in area.
